Newsletter #2

News

  • Welcome to the Shibumi Newsletter!
  • And a big welcome to all of our new subscribers. This newsletter goes out to Shibumi subscribers and members.  As always, we are thrilled to have you all aboard.
  • Over the last couple of months Shibumi has been settling down, ironing out wrinkles and creating new opportunities for its members.
  • The big news this issue is that Shibumi International Reiki Association is now officially an Exempt, Non-Profit organization under IRS section 501(c)(3), Public Charity status 509(a)(2), and eligible to receive tax-deductible donations, with an effective date of exemption of 26 May 2009. Find out more about this on the Shibumi website.
  • More big news for members is that if and WHEN you become registered (either a RP or RP&T) you will receive one of our free membership packs!
    These include
    * 1x Shibumi Reiki Receipt Book
    * 20 x Shibumi Reiki Next Appointment Cards
    * Plus Loads of Shibumi Reiki Brochures and more.
You can find out what else is included on the FREE MEMBERSHIP PACKS page.
BTW: curent Shibumi registered members (i.e. RPs and RP&Ts) will be receiving their packs by the end of July.
  • The Shibumi Reiki Scientific Research Team headed by Trish Edwards is doing fantastic work with a couple of teleconferences under the belt and lots of homework for the team. Now that the nonprofit status is confirmed the team will be looking at ways of funding their proposed research ideas. More to come on that in future news.
The Shibumi Reiki Historical Research Team headed by Rebecca Holton has also been making surprisingly easy progress. Topics have been defined and contacts in the wider historical community been made.

It is very exciting to see these teams working so professionally and efficiently. Shibumi doesn't think there has been anything like this attempted before with such a sharp focus and with complete association support. Shibumi hopes that the results will benefit the entire Reiki community!

A GLIMPSE AT A STUDENT OF USUI

Eguchi Toshihiro initially joined the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai in 1927. He left within two years because he found their fees too high (high fees are quite common in Japanese associations) and he did not entirely agree with elements of the teachings. He went on to set up the Tenohira Ryoji Kenkyu Kai (Palm-healing Research Centre) and became a famous palm-healer. He wrote many books and taught scores of students.

Before discussing the papers contents directly, there is one major question that this publication does not satisfactorily address: Why did the Committee feel the need to publish a viewpoint on the system of Reiki at all?
